SUSTAINABILITY

WHAT IS LEED?

LEED is known as the international mark of environmental excellence. It is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and has dramatically created a more resource-efficient world since its conception.

Buildings can become LEED certified in order to ensure that they are leading in location and transportation, sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

Certain prerequisites must be met in order to achieve different levels
of LEED certification.

One part of the LEED certification program is the Materials and Resources that buildings use. Here at Standard Metal Hardware Manufacturing Ltd., we provide door hardware solutions that help your building become LEED
certified.

OUR MATERIALS ARE MADE FROM RECYCLED CONTENT

SMH’s metal sheet and bar raw material including our 303 & 304 stainless steel, brass, bronze and aluminum are made with over 40% recycled content and are purchased from Canadian metal distribution companies.

OUR PRODUCTS CAN BE RECYCLED UPON EXPIRATION

All of our products can be recycled upon expiration and 100% of our waste/scrap created during the manufacturing process is forwarded to Canadian recycling companies.

WE UTILIZE OUR MATERIAL EFFICIENTLY

The percentage of our material becoming scrap after the manufacturing process (postindustrial) is less than 2%.
