What is CuVerro Shield™?
CuVerro Shield™ is a solid copper alloy surface that kills 99.9% of bacteria* within 2 hours on contact. The bactericidal effects never wear out and last the lifetime of the product. Compared to other bactericidal solutions, CuVerro Shield™ is effective without the use of harmful chemicals.
Is CuVerro Shield™ registered to make public health claims?
Yes, CuVerro Shield™ is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) in the United States and with the Pest Management Regulatory Agency through Health Canada in Canada.
How does CuVerro Shield™ work?
The copper ions of the CuVerro Shield™ surface are recognized as an essential nutrient by the bacteria cells and enter the cell. A lethal dose of copper ions interferes with normal cell functions and destroys the integrity of the bacteria cell membrane. Additionally, the copper ions impede cellular respiration and metabolism and can also cause DNA damage.
*Laboratory testing shows that, when cleaned regularly, CuVerro® surfaces kill greater than 99.9% of the following bacteria within 2 hours of exposure: Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli O157:H7, and Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE).
The use of CuVerro® bactericidal copper products is a supplement to and not a substitute for standard infection control practices; users must continue to follow all current infection control practices, including those practices related to cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces.
